Mike is one most dynamic goofyfooters in world longboarding, and has enjoyed an exciting freesurfing career through a long time sponsorship with Reef.
But Mike had already graduated with a First Class degree in Creative Writing before he launched his surf travel apprenticeship, and consequently has become a published poet, magazine editor and maintained a role as a seasonal lifeguard in west Penwith.
“The role of footwork in longboarding has to be the most important aspect,” says Mike. “Footwork is also about using the middle part of the board, which is such an underrated and beautiful part of longboard surfing.”
Although still an active professional, working as an ambassador for Finisterre, he is now laying down his roots with his young family, shifting focus to a more sustainable lifestyle closely woven to the local land.
Watching Mike surf is a feast for the senses as he fuses powerful carving rail turns with tight footwork and mind-blowing noseriding on custom shapes from Boss Surfboards.
